Ivan Jovanovic of Pfisterer will give a technical presentation at the 2025 INMR WORLD CONGRESS that reviews new applications of cable accessories and related developments in standardization. These applications are aimed at helping faster and more reliable adoption of underground power transmission and distribution in the Americas as well as in other parts of the world where IEEE standards are relevant.
Power densities unthinkable only a decade ago are now required to support the computational revolution taking place in the data centers across the globe, and at the same time to provide reliable power supply to the rest of us. Insulated power cables are one of the most feasible and the most reliable links that can achieve this goal and are therefore increasingly used in every part of the grid:
• in generation, for traditional, solar and wind generation;
• in transmission, in growing urban areas,
• in submarine applications, and across long distances in many land HVAC and HVDC applications, and
• in distribution, both for traditional power distribution, and in microgrids, and other non-conventional distribution networks.
With increased use of power cable systems, a lot of emphasis is on the latest technologies for the most critical elements of this system, i.e. the joints and terminations and on the best way to evaluate, qualify and test these components.
