To properly select the insulator for an HVDC bushing it is necessary to evaluate all design aspects such as Lightning, Switching, AC tests, including altitude corrections if the substation is located at an altitude higher than 1000m a.s.l. and, last, installation conditions in order to guarantee proper insulating distances to building walls or other pieces of equipment.
