Often, only stress caused by imposed voltage is considered as a degradation factor in assessing XLPE cables while other degradation factors are not taken into account. However, XLPE cables installed and operated in the grid are subject to various other types of degradation and the possibility that these factors will shorten service life cannot be completely avoided.
