2009 WORLD CONGRESS & EXHIBITION ON INSULATORS, ARRESTERS & BUSHINGS
Creta Maris Conference Center, Crete, Greece
May 10-13, 2009

TECHNICAL SITE VISITS

These visits are an optional part of the official Conference Program and
involve no additional cost for anyone registered for the 2009 WORLD CONGRESS.

Technical Visit #1:
Visit to a Coated Substation

Only 30 minutes by bus from the Congress Venue is the
Linoperamata Substation, located meters from the
Mediterranean. This station used to be one of the most
problematic in the whole network of the Public Power Corp.
Visit the station and discuss with PPC engineers as well as
coating suppliers the application experience with RTV silicone
and how this has helped to virtually eliminate pollution triggered
flashovers.

Technical Visit #2:
Visit to an Insulator Test Station

Right alongside the Linoperamata Substation is an entirely new
insulator test station located directly alongside the
Mediterranean and exposed to very high saline contamination.
See how engineers at the Public Power Corp. of Greece have
configured this facility to allow them to best monitor the
comparative performance of different insulator designs and
materials as well as alternative formulations of RTV silicone
coatings.

Technical Visit #3:
Visit to a Modern Wind Farm

The recently-built Plastika Wind Farm, located on the mountains
overlooking the beautiful historic island of Spinalonga and the
Bay of Elounda, is the first such facility on Crete to utilize only
silicone insulators for the overhead line connecting it to the local
power system. See the types of insulators and transformers which have been specified to deal effectively with consistently
high levels of wind-borne saline particles.
